Shout-Up! helps licensed venues create safer, more respectful spaces for both customers and staff.
Certification shows that your venue:
takes sexual harassment seriously
supports staff to intervene safely and confidently
meets its duty of care to people who work in and visit your venue
is committed to a better night-time economy for everyone
Safer venues are better venues. People stay longer, spend more, and return to places where harassment is not ignored or normalised.
Delivered by Rape and Sexual Abuse Counselling Centre, Darlington and County Durham, Shout-Up! Durham will begin certifying venues in the City of Durham in 2026.
How it works (at a glance)
Shout-Up! certification is a practical training and standards programme delivered in partnership with your local Rape Crisis centre, Rape and Sexual Abuse Counselling Centre, Darlington and County Durham.
To become certified, your venue commits to:
training 100% of your staff
having clear, public policies on sexual harassment
ongoing checks to make sure standards are maintained
Certification lasts two years, with support throughout.
YOUR COMMITMENTs
Senior staff and supervisors
Attend one in-person training session delivered locally by your local Rape Crisis centre, Rape and Sexual Abuse Counselling Centre, Darlington and County Durham.
Receive individual certification valid for two years
All staff
Complete a short online training course (4 modules)
Learn how to recognise harassment, intervene safely, and respond to concerns
Receive individual certification, transferable between Shout-Up! venues
Only when all staff have received their individual certification does your venue become certified.
